Amalie's two top center incisors had been growing looser for several days, maybe more than a week. She didn't tell us when they first got wiggly. When we had corn on the cob recently, I had to trim the corn off for her. So when last Friday rolled around, she showed me how they had progressed -- both very loose, wobbly. I told her that it was likely neither tooth would still be in her mouth by Monday.
She got upset. I tried to reassure her that it was just a part of growing up, but that didn't help at all. But, there was nothing for it.
On Saturday, one tooth popped out, unfortunately with a lot of blood. She polka-dotted a paper towel. She was a bit distressed but, now that it was over, she perked up a bit.
On Sunday, the other fell out, and this time she was downright ebullient about it. Two teeth! Out! And she's not even thinking about the Tooth Fairy -- they're saved in a little Tupperware container.
First grade starts in just under a month, and many of the children will be in a similar state. Along with her bottom tooth which is being quite pokey-slow to grow in, her smile for now looks like this:
I love this girl, my young lady.
